Safaree Samuels Takes Legal Action Against Ex-Wife Erica Mena Over Child Support Payments
Safaree Samuels is requesting lower child support payments from ex-wife Erica Mena, citing reduced income and her public attacks on his parenting.
Safaree Samuels, 43, is seeking legal relief from his ex-wife Erica Mena, 36, as he requests a reduction in his child support payments. The former Love & Hip Hop star filed a court motion claiming that his financial situation has changed significantly since the couple finalized their divorce in 2022.
In the filing, Safaree explained that his income has decreased since the divorce, which affects his ability to keep up with the previously agreed-upon child support payments. According to an excerpt from the motion,
“The Child Support amount was based upon [his] monthly income of $61,157 per month and [Erica’s] monthly income of $41,289.00 per month…there has been a significant change in circumstances regarding the custodial arrangement and earnings of the parties.”
Safaree further explained that at the time of the divorce, he was a full-time cast member on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta and was generating additional income through public appearances. However, he no longer holds the same role on the show, and his ability to book similar appearances has diminished.
He also alleges that Mena’s actions have negatively impacted his earning potential. The filing claims that Mena has spent months publicly attacking his parenting skills on social media, which has caused harm to his reputation. Safaree argues that these attacks, along with Mena’s alleged interference in his efforts to secure new job opportunities, have led to a decline in his fanbase—primarily made up of women—who now view him as a “deadbeat.”
The couple, who married in 2019, share two children, and their divorce was finalized less than two years later. In addition to the request for a reduction in child support, Safaree is also asking the court to require Erica Mena to cover his legal fees related to the case.
