G. Dep recently shared his thoughts on Lil Wayne’s 2018 hit “Uproar,” which bears a striking resemblance to his 2001 track “Special Delivery.” Featured on Tha Carter V, Wayne’s song uses the same sample from The Moog Machine’s “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” but doesn’t directly sample G. Dep’s iconic track. Initially, Dep wasn’t thrilled with the similarities, expressing his frustration on the BagFuel podcast:

“I was like, ‘Yo, Wayne, what happened, man?’” He added, “Why would they make a single off of a single?”

Despite not receiving any royalties for “Uproar,” since it didn’t officially sample his work, G. Dep’s feelings have since evolved. “After a while, I was like, ‘This is kinda dope,’” he said. “The dude took the time to get on one of my joints. I was honored.” Embracing the tribute, he even released a remix titled “Deproar (Look What You Made Me Do),” putting his own spin on Wayne’s track.

However, “Special Delivery” producer EZ Elpee has expressed dissatisfaction over the situation, stating to HipHopDX, “They stole my shit.” He compared it to remaking “Ruff Ryders Anthem” without crediting the original creators.

G. Dep’s return to music comes after his release from prison earlier this year. He served 14 years following a 2010 confession to a cold case crime. Reflecting on his choice to come forward, Dep told the New York Post, “I feel what I did was right.” Now, with his music back in the spotlight, he’s ready for a fresh chapter.
