CultureCon 2024: A Celebration of Creativity, Fashion, and Inspiration

CultureCon 2024 rocked the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn Navy Yard with an electrifying weekend brimming with empowering discussions, star-studded panels, and stunning fashion showcases. The two-day event attracted Black creatives and industry leaders, providing a transformative experience for the next generation of artists and innovators.

At the event’s start, fashion luminary June Ambrose captivated audiences with a chic gray suit topped with a striking burgundy spiral hat. She led a powerful panel featuring the Gucci Changemaker Creative Fellows, sharing insights on breaking barriers in fashion. 

Renowned stylist Law Roach joined the festivities, reflecting on his journey from Chicago streets to global acclaim. His backstage session with young creatives from Kensington Grey provided heartfelt mentorship, emphasizing the importance of authenticity in an ever-evolving industry.

CEO and Founder Imani Ellis and Emma Grede, Co-Founder of Skims and Good American, led a session on the importance of networking. They emphasized prioritizing your team and recognizing that you can’t do everything for everyone. Their discussion focused on finding balance, working on what matters most at any given time, and understanding that success comes from teamwork and bright focus rather than spreading yourself too thin.

Television favorite Morris Chestnut celebrated diversity alongside his “Reasonable Doubt” co-stars Emayatzy Corinealdi and McKinley Freeman, remarking, “I haven’t been on a set with so much color in my entire career.” Host Karamo Brown led a pivotal discussion on career pivots, emphasizing self-awareness and growth.

Day 2 brought even more inspiration. Anika Noni Rose discussed mental health awareness for children, highlighting the struggles of anxiety and depression. Tony Award-winner Cynthia Erivo empowered attendees to embrace their uniqueness, declaring, “Being an outcast is what makes you powerful.”

Tyler James Williams encouraged patience in the creative process, reminding aspiring artists that “the fastest route to where you are trying to go is slow.” Yara Shahidi closed the event on a high note, urging resilience and courage as essential qualities for success.

With the support of major partners like Max, Chase Ink, and Verizon, CultureCon has solidified its reputation as a hub for Black creativity and innovation.
