R. Kelly’s ex-wife, Andrea “Drea” Kelly, is opening up about her life and experiences in the entertainment industry with the release of her forthcoming book, Under The Red Carpet. In a recent social media post, the 50-year-old dancer announced the book, sharing a video that included images of Diddy and her ex-husband R. Kelly. A voiceover from Drea can be heard stating, “Fame costs, and right here is where you start paying for it in blood, sweat, and tears… I did.”

In the caption, Drea declared her readiness to “disrupt the deception” that has been surrounding her for years. She emphasized that many have spoken about her life without truly knowing her, and it’s time for her to speak fearlessly. “I am a BEAST and a BUTTERFLY,” she wrote, adding that her book will set many free. “No more forcing a smile to get through the pain of being me. No more ‘be nice’ to please an unpleasant world.”

Fans were quick to support Drea in the comments, with one user remarking, “Wow sounds like a horror film. The dark shadows of the entertainment industry and the cost of fame. Speak on it!”

The book announcement comes just days after Drea and R. Kelly’s daughter, Joanne Kelly, revealed the release of the documentary R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey. The upcoming documentary, produced by Tvei Network, will feature emotional interviews with Joanne, her siblings Jaah Kelly and Robert Kelly Jr., and their mother Drea. The family shares the “dark reality of living in the shadow” of one of music’s most controversial figures. Drea was married to R. Kelly from 1996 to 2009.

In addition to her role as Kelly’s ex-wife, Drea is a professional dancer, choreographer, and actress, currently teaching dance fitness and burlesque classes in Atlanta. Over the years, she has used her platform to advocate for domestic violence awareness, speaking to women on college campuses and military bases.

In a 2022 interview, Drea shared advice for women in abusive relationships, emphasizing the importance of leaving when you hear that inner voice telling you it’s time. “Walk out that door with fear, because fear is going to be your fuel,” she said, encouraging others to turn their pain into purpose, just as she has.
