The family of the late legendary rapper Tupac Shakur has enlisted renowned New York attorney Alex Spiro to investigate an alleged connection between Shakur’s 1996 murder and hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, Billboard confirms.

Tupac Shakur was just 25 years old when he was tragically shot while driving through Las Vegas in September 1996. He succumbed to his injuries six days later on September 13, 1996. In September 2023, former gang leader Duane “Keefe D” Davis was arrested and charged with one count of murder with a deadly weapon in connection to the attack. Davis, who is set to stand trial in March 2025, has previously claimed that Diddy offered him $1 million to carry out a hit on Shakur.

The alleged link between Combs and Shakur’s death has resurfaced multiple times in popular culture. Most recently, it was referenced in Eminem’s 2024 track “Fuel” featuring JID, where Eminem raps:

“Notorious B.I.G.’s death was the domino effects of Tupac’s murder… Puff’s? ‘Til he’s in police handcuffs, guilty, will he step up?”

Back in 2008, Diddy denied any involvement in Tupac’s death after a Los Angeles Times report suggested that his associates were responsible for the shooting. “The story is a lie,” Diddy said at the time.

“It is beyond ridiculous and completely false.”

Diddy’s legal troubles have since intensified. Federal prosecutors recently indicted him on multiple charges, alleging that he led a decades-long criminal operation centered around sexual abuse. As of now, 12 civil sexual abuse cases have been filed against the music mogul over the past year.

The Tupac investigation adds another layer to the already complex legal battles surrounding one of hip-hop’s most prominent figures. Fans and observers alike are waiting to see if Spiro’s investigation will uncover new details about the events leading to Tupac Shakur’s death.
