Travis Scott is set to be honored with the prestigious ‘I Am Hip Hop’ award at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards. The announcement came on Tuesday (October 1), building anticipation for the annual event, which will celebrate the influential artist’s contributions to the genre.
In a statement, BET’s EVP of Specials, Music Programming, and Music Strategy, Connie Orlando, praised Travis Scott’s innovative spirit, saying: “Travis Scott is a visionary artist who continues to push the boundaries of music, culture, and live performance. With his unmatched creativity and relentless passion, he has redefined what it means to be a captivating, inspiring entertainer within the hip-hop genre.”

Scott joins an impressive list of past honorees, including Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, LL Cool J, and Lil Kim. The 2023 recipient of the award was legendary producer Marley Marl.
The 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards will take place in Las Vegas for the first time on October 8, airing one week later on October 15 at 8 p.m. local time. Fat Joe will return as host for the third consecutive year. Fans can also look forward to a live performance from Scott, who is nominated in six categories, including Song of the Year for “FE!N.”
Travis Scott’s recognition comes on the heels of a successful year. Last month, his 2014 mixtape Days Before Rodeo made an unexpected climb to the top of the Billboard 200 chart. Initially debuting at No. 2 with over 360,000 units, the project later surged to No. 1, fueled largely by vinyl sales.
According to Billboard, Days Before Rodeo earned 156,000 equivalent album units in its fourth week, with 149,000 of those units coming from vinyl sales, breaking records for the biggest vinyl week ever for a rap album. Scott’s 2023 album Utopia previously held the record with 93,000 vinyl copies sold in a single week.
With his continued success, Travis Scott’s impact on Hip Hop is undeniable, and the I Am Hip Hop award solidifies his place as one of the genre’s most influential figures.
