Tina Knowles is beaming with pride over the way she raised her daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, to stay grounded and respectful despite their massive fame. In an interview with Glamour for their 2024 Women of the Year issue, the 70-year-old fashion designer opened up about the values she instilled in her daughters, including singer Kelly Rowland, who she lovingly refers to as her “bonus daughter.”

“I’m proud to say that I do see the things that I instilled in them — treat people well, do not get stuck on yourself,”

Tina shared. Reflecting on raising her famous children, Tina emphasized the importance of humility, saying,

“We had some moments where I was like, ‘Listen, they can pick up their own suitcases.’ You look people in the eye, say hello, don’t turn into a diva.”

Tina, who shares Beyoncé, 43, and Solange, 38, with her ex-husband Mathew Knowles, also stressed the importance of teaching her daughters to be self-sufficient. “Everybody’s trying to handle everything for them and kissing their butts sometimes, and I am like, ‘No, no, no, you’re not helpless.’ So I’m most proud when they’re good people.”

Beyond their creative talents, Tina shared that her proudest moments come when her daughters’ actions positively impact the world. “I can’t stop smiling,” she added, reflecting on how these moments are even more special than their high-profile successes.

Tina Knowles is also a proud grandmother to Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy, 12, twins Rumi and Sir, 7, and Solange’s son, Daniel, 19. She also considers herself a grandmother figure to Kelly Rowland’s sons, Titan, 9, and Noah, 3.

Tina’s wisdom and approach to motherhood have clearly shaped not just her daughters’ careers but also their strong character.
