Over six years after Fifth Harmony’s disbandment, Normani opened up about her experiences with the group and her transition to a solo career. She joined Keke Palmer and Law Roach at the How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence from the World’s Only Image Architect book launch at NeueHouse in Hollywood on Wednesday, where she discussed using fashion to express herself.

Normani shared that fashion became her voice as a Black woman in the music industry.

“I felt I could rely on fashion to speak for me, which became an important outlet,” she explained.

During the event, Normani reflected on her time with Fifth Harmony, acknowledging how quickly the group ended while they were still at their peak.

“I was grateful for the chance to do things my way because, for so long, I felt hidden,” she said.

As the only Black member, she admitted to feeling like she had to “do the most to be seen,” despite the support from her bandmates.

Normani’s highly anticipated debut solo album, Dopamine, dropped on June 14, featuring lead singles like “1:59” with Gunna, “Candy Paint,” and “All Yours.” Former bandmate Camila Cabello congratulated Normani on Instagram, praising her for the album and celebrating her success.

Despite recent rumors sparked by Ally Brooke about a Fifth Harmony reunion, Normani clarified that nothing is planned at the moment, though she’s open to the idea in the future, saying, “It would be a special moment for sure.”
