Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, and now based in New York City, LGN (pronounced EL-Gin) is carving out a space for himself in the R&B and hip-hop scene. Known for his smooth R&B melodies, hard-hitting rap bars, and reflective storytelling, LGN’s music explores the complexities of love, lust, and relationships. His authentic approach has made his sound relatable to a growing audience.

From College Grad to Rising Star

LGN’s musical journey began just three years ago, culminating in the release of his debut E.P., What Am I Doing? in 2022. Produced by industry veteran Alex Perialas, who has worked with icons like Timbaland, Aaliyah, and Missy Elliott, the E.P. marked a turning point in LGN’s career. Reflecting on his debut, LGN says, “The feedback was astounding. I wrote 24 songs in two and a half weeks, and when Alex told me, ‘You’ve got it,’ I knew I was onto something.”

A graduate of Cornell University, LGN’s transition from academia to music has been met with both triumphs and challenges.

The Indie Grind

Like many independent artists, LGN has faced obstacles while building his career without the support of a major label. Balancing his corporate career with his music, he admits, “It’s difficult. I’ve invested so much into both. After work, the grind doesn’t stop.” LGN has dealt with scams, lawsuits, and limited funds, but he’s learned to navigate these setbacks through trial and error. “No one’s journey in music is linear—even for the ‘nepo babies,’” he notes. “Now, I know what to expect and how to navigate better when the stakes are higher.”

Musical Influences and Evolution

LGN’s sound is influenced by many artists, from legends like Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson to Southern hip-hop icons like Outkast and T.I. “I was a lover boy who loved to sing, but growing up in Atlanta, I couldn’t ignore the deep South rap and hip-hop sounds,” he explains. This blend of genres is evident in his music, which tackles love, heartbreak, and desire themes.

His upcoming single, 50, produced by Justin D10r, is set for release on October 17, 2024. The track departs from his usual emotionally driven R&B, offering a raw declaration of independence. “It’s not a diss track—but lowkey, it is,” LGN laughs. “Many people want to benefit from success without acknowledging the grind it took to get there.”

Looking Ahead

As LGN continues to refine his sound, he’s focused on creating a cohesive musical experience for his listeners. “I’ve grown more as an artist by developing my sound to keep everything consistent so listeners can enjoy a smoother, more immersive experience,” he says.

For LGN, success is defined by continuous growth and pushing boundaries. “If I’m not seeing the needle move or facing new obstacles, I know I need to adjust,” he says. “I’m here to make timeless music and share my story—one track at a time.”
