Summer Walker marked the upcoming anniversary of her debut mixtape, Last Day of Summer, by giving back to her community through the relaunch of her “Buy Black Women Sh*t” initiative. Held on the actual last day of summer, September 22, the event spotlighted Black women-owned businesses in Atlanta focused on self-care. Fans were offered access to discounts, products, and more, celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit of these businesses.

This initiative was done in partnership with LVRN Cares, the philanthropic arm of Walker’s label, which aims to uplift underrepresented communities. Featured businesses included City Dogz, Lot23 Chandler, The Secret Garden, The Lash Vault, Dope People Meet, Sati Yoga & Wellness, Atlanta Curves, and others. The complete directory of participating businesses will be available on Walker’s website until September 22, 2025. Notably, Walker first launched this initiative on September 22 of last year, which is also recognized as “Summer Walker Day” in Atlanta.

Originally released in October 2018, Last Day of Summer catapulted Walker into the spotlight, featuring her multi-platinum single “Girls Need Love” and the popular remix with Drake, which reached No. 2 on the Hot R&B chart and entered the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Walker also released a sped-up version of the mixtape following the viral success of her platinum-certified single “Karma,” which saw a resurgence in streams and similar chart success.

2024 has been a standout year for Walker with several award nominations. Her third EP, Clear 2: Soft Life, earned a nomination for Best R&B Album at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. She also received two NAACP Image Award nominations for Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration, and Outstanding Soul/R&B Song for her track “Good Good” with Usher and 21 Savage. Additionally, the song was nominated for Best R&B Video at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, which Walker attended in September.
