Lady Gaga Unveils 13-Track ‘Harlequin’ Soundtrack for ‘Joker 2’
Lady Gaga is set to release not one but two albums in the coming months.
The pop icon recently announced the release of Harlequin, a soundtrack album for the upcoming film “Joker: Folie à Deux,” in which she stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix. The 13-track album, slated for release on Sept. 27, will coincide with her much-anticipated seventh studio album, from which the first single will drop next month.
Gaga has been teasing fans about Harlequin with a series of cryptic Instagram posts, including messages like “I’m ready for my interview,” “Don’t tell me what to wear,” and “No duct tape. No mission,” paired with acoustic guitar snippets. The number “6.5” has also appeared on billboards, suggesting she doesn’t view Harlequin as a full studio album, unlike her upcoming “LG7.”
The singer will play Lee, a reimagined Harley Quinn, in the “Joker” musical film, which opens on Oct. 4. In a recent interview with Empire, Gaga described the role as something “unlike anything I’ve ever done before.”
The Harlequin soundtrack will include newly recorded versions of classic tracks like “That’s Entertainment.” Meanwhile, her recent single with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile,” won’t be part of “LG7,” despite Gaga’s enthusiasm about the collaboration. She shared that they wrote and recorded the song in one night while she was finishing her album in Malibu.
Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt is rumored to be involved in the project, along with longtime collaborators BloodPop and Benjamin Rice, hinting at a dynamic production lineup. During the premiere of the “Chromatica Ball Film,” Gaga expressed excitement about her new music, stating, “It’s nothing like anything that I’ve ever made before.”
