Chow Lee Says Sexy Drill Is Going Global
Chow Lee says sexy drill is going global. In an interview with Billboard on Monday (Sept. 23), the “ms.beautiful V” rapper discussed co-creating the subgenre with Cash Cobain and Lonny Love, as well as its rising influence.
When asked about the inspiration behind sexy drill, Lee explained,
“It was a natural part of our creative process. We talk about women, and Cash is the mastermind behind the beats. I’d suggest a song to sample, or he’d just look up a track on YouTube, then sample it. We’d start rapping on it from there.”
Cash Cobain produced much of Lee’s latest album, SEX DRIVE. Along with fan favorites like “swag it!” and “act bad twin!”, the 19-track project includes features from AJ Tracey, Roy Woods, Flo Milli, Sleepy Hallow, Bay Swag, and Anycia.
Lee highlighted his collaboration with London rapper AJ Tracey on “im not really spiritual!” as proof that “sexy drill” has a worldwide reach.
“It shows everyone from different places can hop on sexy drill,” Lee said. “Tracey is from the U.K. It’s past New York at this point.”
Describing the album’s vibe, Lee said, “A slizzy summer is being outside, catering to women, having fun, and being yourself. It’s about not being a bozo while handling your business.”
Fans can catch Lee performing at Rolling Loud Miami on Dec. 13, with Cash Cobain set to take the stage the following day. The 10th-anniversary event will also feature headliners Future, Travis Scott, and Playboi Carti.
