Tyrese Gibson Opens Up About Grief and Financial Struggles in Emotional Interview: ‘Black Men Cry’
Tyrese Gibson is once again in the spotlight, this time following a deeply emotional interview on The Breakfast Club.
During his recent appearance, the 45-year-old singer and actor broke down as he candidly discussed his ongoing battle with grief. Emphasizing the need for emotional support for men, Tyrese shared,
“Black men cry. When a divorce happens, women aren’t the only ones devastated. When a miscarriage happens, women aren’t the only ones you should be checking on. When you can’t put food on the table because your career goes up and then it goes down, stop skipping over the man and just checking on the woman.”
Tyrese also reflected on his financial challenges, revealing the struggles he faced during his 2021 appearance on The Masked Singer. He explained,
“I was really a masked singer. I needed that mask so f****** bad. I needed that money from that show so bad. I didn’t have it in me to go stand on that f****** stage and sing, and thank God I had a mask on.”
This heartfelt display of vulnerability is reminiscent of Tyrese’s public breakdown in 2017, during a contentious custody battle with his ex-wife, Norma Mitchell Gibson. A video from that time captured Tyrese’s profound distress over the legal proceedings.
More recently, Tyrese has been involved in a legal dispute with Norma, seeking repayment for their daughter Shayla Somer Gibson’s tuition fees. He claims that Norma owes over $25,000 for her share of the school payments he has covered for the 2022-2025 academic years. Tyrese has requested that this amount be deducted from his child support payments. In response, Norma filed a defamation lawsuit and sought a restraining order, though the restraining order request was later dismissed.
Tyrese’s candid revelations during the interview underscore the emotional toll these ongoing struggles have taken on him, highlighting the broader conversation about mental health and support for men.
