Music’s most iconic night is about to get even more thrilling with the first wave of performers announced.

On Monday, Aug. 12, the MTV Video Music Awards revealed that Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, and Rauw Alejandro will take the stage live at the Sept. 11 show at New York’s UBS Arena.

All of the performers, except Cabello, will be making their main stage debut next month. This will mark Cabello’s third VMAs performance, where she’ll showcase a track from her latest studio album, C,XOXO. Roan, who recently made waves with record-breaking crowds at Lollapalooza and Governor’s Ball earlier this summer, will also make her first-ever awards show performance at the VMAs.

These five artists are just the beginning, with MTV set to reveal more performers in the coming weeks. Each of the announced performers is nominated for an award at this year’s VMAs, with Carpenter leading with six nominations, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for her viral hit “Espresso.”

Roan stands out as the only one in the group nominated for Best New Artist, and she, along with GloRilla, is also up for MTV Push Performance of the Year. Alejandro is in the running for Best Latin, while Cabello is vying for Best Pop.

This year’s VMAs feature 29 first-time nominees, including Carpenter, Roan, Alejandro, Tyla, Jelly Roll, Sexxy Red, Victoria Monét, and many more.

In addition to the performers, MTV announced that the 2024 VMAs will move from its original date of Sept. 10 to Sept. 11, coinciding with the 23rd anniversary of 9/11. The network will support the nonprofit 9/11 Day (also known as the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance) and Tuesday’s Children, which honors the families affected by 9/11.

As previously announced, Taylor Swift leads the pack with 10 nominations at the 2024 VMAs, followed closely by her “Fortnight” collaborator Post Malone with nine. Other major contenders for Moon People this year include Ariana Grande, Eminem, Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, and Olivia Rodrigo.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards airs live on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
