Nicki Minaj Accused of Shading Ice Spice on Instagram: Fans React to Ignored Compliment
Nicki Minaj has been accused of throwing shade at Ice Spice by seemingly ignoring a compliment on Instagram. Nicki shared a throwback picture of herself from nearly 20 years ago, captioned: “17 years ago [ribbon emoji] Crimped my own hair [tick emoji] Did my own makeup [tick emoji] 2 padded bras to make my boobs look bigger [tick emoji] Barbz!!!!”
Fans and fellow artists, including Ice Spice, reacted to the post, with Ice leaving a smiling face with heart-eyes emoji in the comments. However, observant fans noticed that Nicki liked comments from other celebrities such as Sexyy Red, Akbar V, and Kim Petras, but not Ice’s. Ice’s comment has since disappeared, either deleted by her or removed by Nicki, although they still follow each other on Instagram.
Social media quickly reacted to the perceived slight. One user noted, “She being ignored deliberately ice’s comment has the most likes…oh this is messy,” while another commented, “She is the only one without a like [crying face emoji] Nicki is sick.” A third user claimed, “She’s taking Nicki’s spot. She already won. Nicki is 40+… her run has to end just like Beyonces and all the greats.”
Ice Spice recently revealed that her relationship with Nicki Minaj is not particularly close. “We’re mutuals. We had smash records together. I love us together. I think the world does too,” she told Rolling Stone. She also addressed leaked text messages expressing frustration over the business details of their “Barbie World” collaboration. “I don’t really think she cares about shit like that coming from a random girl,” Ice said about Nicki. “But what I said in those texts was just in a moment of frustration around contract negotiations. I could have chosen different words. But at the end of the day, regardless of how I felt in that moment, [Nicki] is still somebody I respect as an artist, and I’m always going to admire everything she’s done for me and the culture.”
In the leaked messages, Ice called Nicki “ungrateful and delusional” during negotiations for their collaboration on the Barbie film soundtrack and accused Nicki of being “jealous” of her ownership of her master recordings, something Nicki does not have.
