Jonathan Major Heartbroken Over the New Avengers Recast
Jonathan Majors has expressed his thoughts on Robert Downey Jr. taking over his role as the primary antagonist in the next Avengers movie.
Majors, 34, showed up as Kang the Conqueror in the Disney+ series Loki and 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, setting him up to be a notorious villain in future Marvel Studios films. However, once the actor was convicted of assault back in March 2023 by his ex Grace Jabari, the company decided to remove him from the franchise.
During the San Diego Comic Con on July 27th it was announced that Robert Downey Jr., famous for his role as Iron Man, would be the one to return to the franchise to play supervillain Doctor Doom, solidifying himself as the next bad guy for the series.
As TMZ stopped Majors, locating him while walking, he expressed feeling devastated by the news. “Yeah, heartbroken. Of course,” Majors shared. “I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though.” According to Variety, TMZ also inquired with Majors on the comparison of treatment he receives versus stars like Downey and Ezra Miller who have also dealt with legal issues.
“I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity and love … and [he’s] being allowed to work [his] art and be creative at that level,” Majors said about how Downey was afforded a comeback despite legal troubles. “I didn’t really get that.”
