Halle Bailey Shares Insights on Her Relationship with DDG and Upcoming Solo Debut EP
Several months have passed since the release of “The Little Mermaid,” and Halle Bailey is gearing up for her next significant endeavors. The multi-talented artist is currently preparing to launch her solo EP and is set to take on a leading role in Blitz Bazawule’s highly anticipated adaptation of “The Color Purple.”
In a recent feature for Cosmopolitan’s latest issue, Halle delved into topics ranging from her upcoming music to her personal relationships and acting career.
The transition from a youthful sensation to an established figure in the entertainment industry is rarely a seamless one, particularly when the public feels a sense of ownership over the artist’s narrative. Halle and her sister, Chlöe Bailey, catapulted to fame after a video of their rendition of Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts” went viral in 2013.
Acknowledging her journey, Halle stated,
“People have watched me grow up. While it’s comforting to know you have that kind of support, it can also be stifling when everyone feels they can comment on your life.”
Halle’s romantic life has also been under the scrutiny of the public eye, particularly her relationship with rapper DDG. Earlier this year, rumors swirled about her pregnancy, causing a frenzy of speculation and gossip.
In July, DDG dropped a track titled “Famous,” which drew backlash for delving into his dating anxieties. Although the song didn’t explicitly mention Halle’s name, fans accused him of hindering her acting career.
Reflecting on her personal life, Halle shared,
“Love has been a really big one for me too because that’s something I’m experiencing for the first time, and it’s, like, ‘whoa’ in your brain. It’s just fireworks, a spark for creativity,” Halle told the publication. “You know, you have puppy love experiences, you think that’s love. But this is my first deep, deep, real love.”
Furthermore, she opened up about her creative process and the inspiration behind her new music. She revealed,
“I don’t really talk about my personal stuff, but I will tell you where I get my creativity from. This has been a really beautiful transformative time for me. I have all this new material to write about. It’s like, ‘What the heck did I just experience and go through?’ A whirlwind of amazingness.”
Halle went on to say, “You never know what you’re capable of until you’re put through it. I was very creatively inspired, and then from there, I fell in love. And so I really just played with those themes in my music. Sound-wise, it’s a little modern R&B-ish, with all the jazz elements and hints of pop that I love.”
When queried about her eagerly awaited solo debut EP, Halle confidently replied, “Definitely before the end of the year.” Notably, in August, Halle released her maiden single as a lead artist titled “Angel,” accompanied by a music video that amassed over 10 million views on YouTube.
