Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion Unveil Exciting Joint Single “Bongos”
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion made an exciting announcement on Monday, September 4th. They’re teaming up once more to drop a highly anticipated new single titled “Bongos.” Fans won’t have to wait long, as the release is set for this Friday, September 8th. Alongside this announcement, the artists shared a glimpse of the album artwork and a pre-save link for their upcoming musical endeavor.
The cover art for “Bongos” showcases Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, both sporting vibrant, multicolored curls and one-piece outfits in striking shades of blue and purple. This collaboration marks their return after their previous joint effort, the chart-topping sensation “WAP,” which held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for an impressive month and generated its fair share of controversy.
Reflecting on the past, Cardi B took to Twitter to remind fans of the tumultuous journey “WAP” took them on, including the near-legal battle with the FCC and the relentless scrutiny from Republican figures. The song’s provocative nature had Cardi B in the headlines and on the news constantly, with potential legal actions and political condemnations looming.
As we eagerly await the release of “Bongos,” let’s relish in the anticipation and excitement surrounding the reunion of these two powerhouse artists. Stay tuned for what’s sure to be another memorable musical moment in their careers.
In a recent legal battle, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion emerged victorious against accusations of lyrical plagiarism involving their songs “WAP” and “Thot St.” Denise Jones, professionally known as Necey X, had claimed that the artists had copied lyrics from her 2020 track, “Grab Em By The Psy.”
U.S. District Judge Andrew L. Carter responded to the allegations by stating, “The lyrics for which the plaintiff asserts copyright protection are nothing more than common phrases, frequently used in popular culture and other hip-hop songs. Moreover, the defendants presented examples of at least three songs that predate ‘Grab Em’ and use some variation of the phrase ‘n**gas wildin’.” Consequently, the lawsuit was promptly dismissed.
Interestingly, Cardi B appeared to alter her career trajectory despite previously announcing a solo focus in her Vogue México cover story. She hinted at a more multifaceted approach to her music career, saying, “I’m going to release my next solo single. At the moment, I’m actively working on the cover art and concepts for my upcoming record because it’s definitely in the pipeline.” This suggests that while her solo work remains a priority, collaborations like “Bongos” are still on her creative horizon.
Meanwhile, for Megan Thee Stallion, news of the joint release came after a whirlwind year in her career. She unveiled her sophomore album, “Traumazine,” in August 2022. Beyond her musical achievements, Megan expanded her presence in the world of film and television, making guest appearances in projects such as the Disney+ series “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” and the upcoming movie “D**ks: The Musical.” Megan’s career continues to thrive across various entertainment realms.
