In an episode that premiered last Thursday, July 30th the iconic singer and entrepreneur did not hold back with her many iconic stories.
- Her relationship with Aretha Franklin wasn’t a bad one contrary to public belief.
LaBelle was asked by the Drink Champs hosts about the time Franklin sang at the Women of Soul concert at the White House in 2014 where it appeared the late singer snubbed LaBelle as she walked passed her. LaBelle, 78, explained that the two women loved each other and that Franklin hadn’t been feeling well that day. “Me and Aretha, we were good, okay?” she said. “The time that she did the White House, she was not feeling great, okay? After the White House, we spoke on the phone — she called me because she was very interested in having her items in Walmart. We talked about food, we talked about recording together — this is after the White House. She always loved me. At the time, I don’t think she was feeling great.”
- Patti Labelle is a fan of Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and City Girls.
“I heard [‘WAP’] and I said ‘Go girls!’ They said it. They do it. That’s what they do and people love it.
I love those girls for what they do. The City Girls [too]. They all got their own thing. Everybody is doing what they go. I know what’s happening.”
- Patti Labelle is coming out of retirement for Jasmine Sullivan
“I thought Jazmine Sullivan hated me,” LaBelle told N.O.R.E. and EFN. “Whenever I would see her, she’s shy and I would give her all these props and stuff and I’d say ‘baby girl don’t like me.’ My feelings were hurt until last week.” During a phone call set up by a mutual friend the 35-year-old singer is said to have confirmed her love and admiration for LaBelle. The singer shared that she loved the singer so much that she gets shy around her. “Jazmine and I are recording soon,” she said. “You know, after 15 years I haven’t recorded. So I’m doing stuff with her and a bunch of other sweeties.”
