This Saturday, May 21st would have been the late great Notorious B.I.G.’s 50th birthday. His hometown of New York City is pulling all the stops to remember the fallen emcee, who passed away on March 9, 1997 in an unsolved murder 25 years ago in Los Angeles. And still, he’s remembered and celebrated as one of the best rappers in Hip Hop history.

Born Christopher George Latore Wallace, in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn on May 21, 1972, Biggie aka Frank White was destined to a superstar. From his early teenage days of battle rapping on the block, to dope dealing, and even landing his first record deal. He was prolific and he was a visionary. He had his sight sought from very young, which made him respected amongst his peers. And although his career and life was cut short at the tender age of 24, he had already accomplished so much as an emcee and left behind a legacy that we will cherish forever.

New York City mayor, Eric Adams made it official earlier that May 21st will be dubbed as, “B.I.G. Day” in a press conference, as his son, CJ Wallace accepted the proclamation on his father’s behalf.

Lil’ Kim and friends will host the 2nd annual Biggie Dinner Gala tomorrow in NYC for invites only, followed by a slew of various parties hosted by those who were close to the rapper, including a block party on Saturday in his old neighborhood. Also, New York City is providing 50,000 metro cards on a first come, first serve basis with his image on the back to commuters at selected train stations in the borough of Brooklyn.

And if that’s not enough, the celebration continues as new music is on the way! Yes, you heard it here first. Tonight at midnight, Biggie will be hitting our streaming platforms with “G.O.A.T.” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Bella Alubo. Listen to a snippet below:
