J. Cole Remixes Drake’s “Pipe Down” On New Track “Heaven’s EP”
It appears being in contention for album of the year isn’t enough for J. Cole as the Dreamville rapper returns with his new single ‘Heaven’s EP.’ The new song features J. Cole rapping over the ‘Pipe Down’ beat featured on Drake’s Certified Lover Boy.
On the track, J. Cole raps about where he is in life and where he sees himself on the Hip-Hop hierarchy with bars such as, “I represent intelligent n****s that grew up harshly, But lately I’ve been questioning, second-guessing, whether or not I’ve got something to offer since I done eluded poverty, Or has the money watered me down, that truth is hard for me,” along with “Some people say that I’m running third, they threw the bronze at me, Behind Drake and Dot, yeah, them n****s is superstars to me.”
It’s unclear if the single is the effect of J. Cole simply being inspired to rap on the ‘Pipe Down’ beat or if it serves as a precursor to J. Cole’s highly anticipated final album The Fall Off. As fans may remember, in an Instagram post last year J. Cole hinted at retirement with a photo that listed his goals with a caption that read, “I still got some goals I gotta check off for’ I scram…” All that’s left on his laundry list of goals is two projects, the first one titled It’s A Boy and the second one being the long-awaited project The Fall Off. Whether or not ‘Heaven’s EP’ is a precursor to J. Cole ending 2021 the way he started it remains to be seen, but J. Cole fans will settle for the new track in the meantime.
