Foxy Brown’s ‘Broken Silence’ 20th Anniversary Contest Giveaway

Foxy Brown left a huge impact in the Hip-Hop community once her critically acclaimed album Broken Silence was released on July 17, 2001 under Def Jam Recordings. 20-years later, the album is still in full-rotation and is considered to be a classic album overall. 

MusicXclusives is hosting a contest giveaway in honor of Broken Silence 20^th Anniversary.

The deadline will end on July 17, 2021 at 11:59 PM EST and the winner will be announced soon after. Multiple submissions are warranted.

It debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 charts, upon its first week and landed at number 3 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums. 

Records such as the Caribbean-influenced “Oh Yeah,” which features Spragga Benz had become a club banger meanwhile, songs like the gritty and street-rugged “B.K. Anthem” proved herself as a hardcore lyricist. “Candy” (featuring Kelis) was more of a mainstream, catchy and pop smash. Broken Silence cemented Foxy as one of the very first artist in Hip Hop history to merge both Rap and Reggae/Dancehall tunes together simultaneously. And she did it so authentically and effortlessly, mainly due to her West-indian background, with parents of Trinidadian descent. “Tables Will Turn” (featuring Baby Cham) also proved this.

“Oh Yeah” peaked at number 63 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs on Billboard whereas it landed at number 22 on Hot Rap Songs. The record would reach new heights in different countries, such as Switzerland which remained at 19 and the Netherlands which stayed at 38 on Dutch Top 40.

“Candy” on the other hand was more of a Funk/Pop infused track, which solidified its production with Kelis on the background vocals. The record peeked at number 10 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs and charted at 48 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs as well. 

Did you know? “Na Na Be Like,” off Broken Silence was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2002, a year after the album was released. Foxy Brown is also considered a Grammy Award Winning Artist, for her feature on Nas King Disease album, which won a Grammy Award for Best Hip-Hop album.
