Snoop Dogg Joins Def Jam As Senior Strategic Advisor

Looks like this Hip Hop icon is rolling up another bag and this time, it’s with Def Jam. Hip Hop Superstar and Weed Connoisseur Snoop Dogg is adding another title to his resume as the new Senior Strategic Advisor at Def Jam Records. This role will focus on the A&R and creative development for the 37 year old label. Variety broke the news this morning and shares the role will also “allow him to strategically work across the label’s executive team and artist roster,” according to the announcement.

The announcement video, which you can see here, was released this morning with Snoop Dogg sharing why he decided to work with the legendary label:

“Now, you may wonder why so late in my career would I wanna work for Def Jam Records? Well, let me tell you, as a young rapper, Def Jam was the holy grail of hip hop. So, when I got the opportunity, my main focus on Def Jam Records was to help the artists and give them love and wisdom and guidance and understanding; [to] teach them some tricks that I learned in the game; to diversify their portfolios to not just be rappers and not just be artists, [but] to be superstars,”

The 49-year-old legend also shared that with this new role, he will push for to “make great music videos, TV shows, video games and hit records.” Furthermore, the “Gin & Juice” rapper will “tell life stories” of the artists on Def Jam, bring in fresh talent, and may even drop album number 19. In addition to this role, Snoop is currently a host on the VH1 show Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party with Martha Stewart. For the new gig, Snoop will report to Universal Music Group Chairman & CEO Lucian Grainge and Def Jam interim Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Harleston at the Los Angeles Headquarters. Grainge shared his excitement with Snoop joining the team:

Harleston also added, “I have had the pleasure knowing and working with Snoop Dogg for more than twenty years. Snoop has a genuine passion for the label and the culture, and we are all excited to have Snoop join the Def Jam Family.
