A$AP Rocky unveiled his love for Rihanna on his cover story for GQ’s June/July 2021 issue.
The 32-year-old Harlem native, recently did a front-cover spread and interview with GQ Magazine, where he elaborated on the stature of where the Pop icon remained in his life:
“The love of my life. My lady,” A$AP renounced boastfully, presuming to be gleaming from ear to ear. During the interview, the Hip-Hop contender turned fashion extraordinaire continued to coyly elaborate on he and Rihanna’s relationship.
“It’s so much better than when you got the one. She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones. I think when you know, you know. She’s the one.”
To A$AP, born originally as Rakim A. Mayers – he further explains to GQ that he felt a sense of belonging and a haven when he and Rihanna went to visit her family back in Barbados, around Christmas 2020. Ironically both A$AP and Rih share a cultural background of Bajan roots (Random fact: A$AP’s father is from Barbados).
“It was like a homecoming thing,” A$AP recalled. “It was crazy. I [have] always imagined what it would be like for my dad before he came to America. [And] I got to visit those places, and believe it or not, there was something nostalgic about it. It was foreign but familiar.”
The duo has been captured traveling around the world for the better part of the pandemic, from road trips to international getaways, and of course, PDA. It would seem as if Rihanna also changed the perspective of A$AP’s bachelor lifestyle to inquiring about his future of marriage and children.
“If that’s in my destiny, absolutely.” Regarding him potentially be a father in the future, “I think I’d be an incredible, remarkably, overall amazing dad. I would have a very fly kid. Very.”
Although the couple has been made public since last November, it has been rumored to be that the duo was briefly romantic back in 2017. True love has a funny way of reverting back.
Aside from displaying his sentimental side for his beautiful beau, A$AP spoke candidly about his relationship with former President, Donald J. Trump and his 6-month stint in a Swedish jail cell.
Dated back in 2018, A$AP Rocky was incarcerated on an assault charge which insinuated from an altercation in Stockholm, by a few spectators who followed the rapper and entourage, harassing them until utilizing [their] fists as a defense mechanism.
Being convicted and confined into a Swedish prison cell, A$AP can recall the first month being held into solitary confinement and finding it complicated to rest. For the duration of his stay, the rapper would spend 23-hours in the cell with one hour of freedom – clearly a transitional shift from his elite lifestyle.
However, the rapper did not permit his circumstances to prohibit his growth into artistry and manhood. He prayed religiously. Exercised, wrote music, and tapped into his fashion roots to design for Marine Serre.
During the night hours, the rapper would have the television on as a background noise to obtain some sort of rest – despite the language barrier.
One night, however, A$AP immediately woke up from his slumber after he heard him and Donald J. Trump in the same sentence. Although the Swedish language was hard to dissect, he was able to conclude the actual reason for the correlation.
Trump became a prominent supporter of ‘Free Rocky’ campaign, since it was unjust that he was held in prison without a proper trial. However, A$AP’s fan base was perplexed and upset – utilizing a black man’s struggle to garner the minority vote. Others were upset at Rocky considering he had affiliation with the most hated President, though that was far from the case. He was just as confused as everyone else at this point. The following day, the former President vouched for A$AP to be released from the Swedish prison, however A$AP does not believe that Trump made the final decision of him being released from prison.
“It’s a misconception. He didn’t help—he made efforts [that] he rooted for me to come home, but he didn’t free me.”
The trial took approximately three days, to which he was released on a pending verdict. The rapper was given a 2-year conditional sentence that prohibited further jail time.
Eventually the rapper and political figure would converse on a private phone call. A$AP stated that he was extremely grateful for Trump’s contribution to rally him out of prison. “I was mad thankful that he did that because he didn’t have to. He took the time out of his day,” which being in a jail cell for a long duration of time would deem any sort of gratitude from anyone on the outside reaching out.
Oh, and if anyone is wondering, A$AP stated that the food was trash and being confined by his lonesome was boring. Be sure to check out the June/July issue of GQ Magazine.
