DMX Final Interview to Air on TVOne
Founder and Chairwoman of Urban One, Cathy Hughes made an announcement that TVOne will premiere an exclusive episode of their critically acclaimed autobiographical series, Uncensored, which features the late hip-hop icon DMX. In a virtual press conference for the Urban One Honors on April 28th, the prominent chairwoman unveiled prior to the star-studded event, there will be a special episode that features the late rapper in his innermost unadulterated self – going in depth of his trials, tribulations, and road to redemption three weeks before his passing.
“DMX sat down with our team and was completely uncensored,” Cathy Hughes stated. “We have one hour with the late rapper in his own words. For DMX to be with us just three weeks before God called him home, I believe it’s truly divine intervention. I thank Nikki from SWIRL Films for staying the course because he kept telling her ‘no,’ but thankfully, we were able to make it happen. His family, fan club, friends, and supporters will be happy with the way he told his story for the last time. The two-part special will air directly before the Urban One Honors. I’m particularly excited because I feel like this will be the biggest night in TVOne history.” Hughes continued.
Uncensored will divulge into DMX profound three-decade career and legacy in hip-hop and action-packed movies. The docu-series dissects into Simmons personal life, during the beginning stages of his life. His mother, Arnet Simmons, cites that her son was a ‘problem child,’ as early as kindergarten. Unfortunately, his crude behavior landed him in several group homes for boys and detention centers, however, this was an underlying blessing as he discovered his passion for writing poetry and songs.
Cultivating his God-given talent, the prominent emcee started off in humble beginnings, as DMX initiated his rap career as a battleground rapper. By 1991, he was featured on The Source Magazine’s Unsigned Hype and by 1992, was signed to Rufflehouse Records. However, it was not until 1998 where DMX would release his debut album It’s Dark and Hell is Hot which charted as number one on the Billboard 200. Within the same year, X released his second project Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood which also charted number one; making him singlehandedly the first living artist to release two chart-topping albums within the same year.
Releasing six studio albums and appearing on several TV shows and movies, DMX became a household name – as well as a spokesperson for his vices to the younger generation.
Be sure to catch DMX on Uncensored on May 16, 2021 at 8:00 p.m. EST followed by Urban One Honors award ceremony at 9:00 p.m. EST.
