New Music Video For “Part of The Game” Featuring 50 Cent & NLE Choppa With First-Look At Power Book III: Raising Kanan
This week we saw the unlikely and surprisingly successful pairing of 50 Cent and NLE Choppa, accompanied by Rileyy Lanez, on “Part of The Game” – the theme track for the new season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, scheduled to premiere this summer.
The track premiered on Sunday during the season finale of Power Book II: Ghost, giving fans their first look at the upcoming season 3, a prequel to the original series that follows the early years of 50 Cent’s character, Kanan Stark – to be played by Mekai Curtis in the new series.
The song, set to A Tribe Called Quests’ “Excursions” represents a coming together of the old and new schools by juxtaposing a classic 50 Cent melody in rare, Get-Rich-or-Die-Tryin’-form with an impressively reverent NLE Choppa – who manages to hold his own with the NY hip hop legend by showcasing a different, more mature side of himself to match his recent personal developments.
The video, directed by prolific director Eif Rivera and 50 Cent, sets the scene for the new season set in 90’s Southside Jamaica, Queens – with 50 and NLE Choppa decked out in the finest vintage designer drip, thick twisted rope gold chains, and classic 90’s BMW’s. Overall, “Part Of The Game” is catchy, nostalgic, and well-executed, serving as an excellent kickoff for the new season.
The series is executive produced by Courtney A. Kemp through her company End of Episode and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through his G-Unit Film and Television, both of whom also executive-produced the hit original series “Power.”
Starring as series regulars are Mekai Curtis as the young Kanan Stark, Patina Miller as Kanan’s mother Raquel “Raq” Thomas, Omar Epps as Detective Malcolm Howard, London Brown as Marvin Thomas, Malcolm Mays as Louis “Lou-Lou” Thomas, Shanley Caswell as Detective Shannon Burke, Lovie Simone as Davina Harrison, Toby Sandeman as Symphony Bosket, Joey Bada$$ as Unique, and Hailey Kilgore as Jukebox. Recurring in the series are Quincy Brown as Crown, Ade Chike Torbert as Scrappy, Natalee Linez as Jessica Figueroa, and Annabelle Zasowski as Nicole Bingham.
