J.Diamondz Celebrates His Birthday with an Exclusive Interview
J Diamondz’s love affair with music started well before his latest hits and internet notoriety. Born in the “Birthplace of Hiphop”, the Bronx NY emcee has had quite a unique journey to reaching his newfound mainstream success with no signs of slowing down.
Growing up in NY, Diamondz was exposed to several different genres and artists, specifically hip hop and dancehall. Raised in a Jamaican household, his Carribean culture heavily influences his style and sound. Throughout his childhood, he was also introduced to music from Biggie Smalls, Wu Tang Clan, Shabba Ranks, and 2Pac, to name a few. He also mentions dancehall legend, Bounty Killer, as one if his primary inspirations.
Diamondz also recalls two very specific encounters that helped mold him into the artist that his today. One instance allowed the young emcee to exchange bars with the late Big Pun, where Pun told him to “keep at it and never give up”. The other encounter occurred back in 1999, where he recalls giving his mixtape to then Roc-a-fella Records CEO turn business mogul Jay-Z. He reluctantly asked for it back out of a fear of rejection but in true boss fashion, Jay not only kept the tape but drove off with Diamondz music playing on full blast.
Now in 2020, J.Diamondz has continued to make a name for himself amongst hip-hop and dancehall fans all over the world. His growing fan base has allowed him to tour several countries including Dubai, London, Paris and Japan. Diamondz can be seen as the opening act for popular dancehall artist, Mavado.
His latest singles involve a list of star-studded features including DreamDoll, Safaree and the “Queen of Dancehall” herself, Spice. ‘Ride or Die’ ft Spice has been hitting the airwaves extremely hard and continues to build momentum on various streaming platforms.
Diamondz continues to make strides in his career as he expands his range beyond the microphone. He currently acts as a brand ambassador for Ewing Athletics and Human Brands Mazeray Champagne. The “Gully so Gully” rapper is confident that this is his year, declaring that he is the “Senior Freshman” in this 2020 class and surely an artist to keep an eye on.
