Single Review: Charlie Sloth (feat. Polo G & Deno) – ‘Purple’
This month famed U.K. radio host Charlie Sloth released a single featuring the collaborative efforts of Chicago superstar Polo G and rising U.K. artist Deno.
In recent months, both Deno and Polo G have shown their exceptional talents coast-to-coast, and this collaboration serves as a prime crossover effort between the recent U.S. hip-hop scene and the U.K. hip-hop scene with fantastic results. For this track to work, the beat needed to be in the center point of both hip-hop scenes, and with production from superstar producer Jabarionthebeat, notably one of the executive producers of J.I. The Prince of NY’s latest EP, Welcome to GStarr Vol 1. EP, this necessity was exceptionally met. The beat is as compelling as it is easily malleable for Polo G and Deno’s distinct styles, and it wholeheartedly brought the best out of both artists.
Polo G in particular shines on this track, as he does quite regularly, communicating the reality of his Chicago-based upbringing, all while effortlessly gliding on this beat. Deno’s contribution brings the perfect ying-yang energy to the track, and rather than one artist’s style overpowering the other, “Purple” produced a track that exemplifies the talent of every artist involved. In other words, the record is a smash hit and odes well to Charlie Sloth’s ear for talent and ability to assemble a fantastic set of artists.
