Single Review: @ChloeXHalle – ‘Do It’

Published

Sisters and R&B dup Chloe x Halle released their new single from their up-coming sophomore album, Ungodly Hour under Beyoncé’s Parkwood label entitled “Do It,” and they certainly did THAT. The song is a mid-tempo R&B song with a more grown-ish sound (pun intended) that will have you grooving this summer, even while in quarantine. The music video even shows the duo dressed sexier and more grown-up, matching the energy they put into this bop.

The single serves as the follow up to their debut single from the album entitled “Catch Up” featuring Swae Lee, produced by Mike-Will-Made-It. The song, like many on the radio, has heavy 808s paired with trappy snares and light synths, but with Chloe x Halle’s smooth and light vocals it still captures a different, more euphoric sound. I especially like how the beat has a slight change towards the end during the chorus. The song also has a minor reminiscent sound of late 90s R&B (i.e. SWV, Total, Usher). It’s also refreshing to hear the sisters, who are now much more grown, sing a more adult like record that can truly get the clubs popping- when they can eventually open back up.

Chloe x Halle’s Ungodly Hour will be released on June 05, 2020 at the start of Black Music Month. Please, support Black artists, especially these two sisters. With what they’ve provided so far, you definitely won’t be disappointed.
