Jay-Z and Meek Mill Donating Millions of Masks to Prisons

As Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc all over the country, many celebs have been working diligently to help contribute to relief efforts world-wide. And while many people are taking extreme measures to maintain safety and sanity during these times, there’s a significant group of individuals who seem to have been forgotten completely.

With inmates sharing close quarters for extended periods of time, prisons have now become some of the largest breading grounds for the virus to spread.

Since his release from prison in 2018, Meek Mill has been adamant about his stance on criminal justice reform. Despite making headlines all week for his social media feud with popular rapper and government informant, Tekashi 6ix9ine; he’s also making strides to help protect those that are incarcerated during the pandemic.

With the help of a $10 million dollar donation from Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey, The REFORM Alliance plans to send over 10 million masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) to prisoners nationwide. The equipment will also help correctional staff and other employees that are prevented from social distancing due to working conditions.

“I’m grateful Reform exists,” Dorsey explained to Black Enterprise. “The criminal justice system needs to change. COVID-19 adds to the injustices, and Reform is best suited to help.”

The REFORM Alliance was founded in early 2019 by Jay-Z, Meek Mill, and businessman Michael Rubin. Their goal is to offer support to inmates while helping to redevelop probation and parol policies in order to reduce incarceration rates.

Last month, they partnered with Madonna’s ‘Ray of Light Foundation’ to send over 100,000 masks to prisons that were heavily affected by Covid-19.
