Posthumous Pop Smoke Album Has A Release Date
This week we found out we will be getting some new music from the late Pop Smoke very soon. In an Instagram post, Pop Smoke’s family and his manager, Steven Victor, confirmed that his untitled posthumous debut album will be released on June 12th. Though there isn’t much information on the album out yet, fans have speculated that 50 Cent may have had a heavy hand in it’s curation. Earlier in March, it was reported that 50 wanted to be the executive producer on the project. In fact, 50 Cent said this regarding putting together the album, “I definitely want to get Roddy Rich and a few of the people that I know that would fit on these records organically involved in it. I’m going to send it to them and I’m going to say, ‘Play it. Listen, if you don’t just feel like this is it, don’t even touch it. Please send it back. Delete, and just move on.’ Because he had so many pieces set up that were so good that it’s not tough to put it together.”
Beyond this album it’s unclear when we will get more music from Pop Smoke, though his family and Steven Victor had this to say on the topic in a joint statement, “Throughout the next year we will be sharing new music, as we continue to work to build Pop’s legacy. In conjunction with his estate we will be making formal announcements on his foundation and music projects.” We have gotten bits and pieces of his unreleased catalog, including features on “Zoo York” with Fivio Foreign and Lil Tjay, and “Run It Up” with Nav.
Pop Smoke was tragically killed in Hollywood Hills on February 19th of this year. He was 20 years old. According to reports, his murder is still an ongoing investigation.
