Who is Avatar Frost?

Avatar Frost is the epitome of music. An amalgamation of genre-bending melodies and complex lyrical prowess that sometimes (I’ll admit) even surprise myself.

Where did the name Avatar Frost come from?

Originally my name was Frostbyte, a nickname given to me in college because of my cold demeanor and my dating choices haha. As I evolved as an artist, I began to see myself as a master of connection, one who can bring all sects of music together much like the Avatar with the elements in “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, a nickelodeon tv show that if you haven’t watched you definitely should! Hence I changed my stage name to Avatar Frost.

Where are you from? What was it like growing up where you are from?

I was born in Charlotte, NC. Not much more you can say about East Side Charlotte that isn’t already known. I love my city, you’ll never meet people realer than the individuals you will come across in Charlotte. In the same breath…watch where you at if you feel what I’m sayin.

What are your musical influences?

First and foremost, Hip-Hop is my basis. HOV completely changed the game but I was raised on Tribe and The Roots and other 90’s rap artists that are too many to name individually. But I’ve been heavily influenced by artists like Sade, Eryka Badu, Lamb, even bands like Tool and The Beatles have crept into my musical subconscious. I’m all over the place but that’s what I believe makes great music.

Top 5 favorite rappers of all time?

Tough question but off the top: Jay-Z, Andre 3000, Lupe Fiasco, Kendrick Lamar and of course Tupac/Makeveli. No specific order though.

If you could choose 2 songs for any first time listener, what would they be?

Of course “Mimosa” and “Floyd”
