Haitian Musician Mikaben Passes Away

International Haitian musician Mikaben has reportedly passed away over the weekend in Paris, France. The popular singer, whose real name is Michael Benjamin was performing on stage at the Accor Arena as a guest for the well-known Haitian konpa group CaRiMi to a venue of 20,000 before collapsing on stage as he exited.

Fans in the audience were shocked and captured videos shared on social media, before being rushed to emergency services after he had just experienced a seizure while walking to the back of the stage after his performance.

Mikaben, is the son of iconic singer Lionel Benjamin, was born Haitian in the capital of Port-au-Prince in 1981. He established his career and garnered acclaim as a generational talent. The incident took place on Saturday night in Paris.

His wife, Vanessa who is currently pregnant with their second child has asked for privacy while she grieves the loss of her husband. He has three child, one of which from a previous relationship. The venue posted on Twitter that Mikaben, a legendary musician from Haiti, “died after suffering a seizure on stage and despite the efforts of emergency services.”

He was only 41 years old at time of his passing, and was born on June 27, 1981. He was widely known for his hits such as “Baby I Missed You,” “Fanm Sa Move,” which massed millions of views online and made him a worldwide phenom and adored by the Haitian community. By the age of 14, he had already started to take interest in music and watched his father both write and perform early on. He was fluent and sang in English, French, Creole, and Spanish. He can play the guitar, piano, bass, drums, and other instruments.
