Throwback Thursday: Mint Condition – ‘U Send Me Swinging’
Their second single, ‘U Send Me Swingin’’ was written by the group’s then keyboardist; Keri Lewis.
Mint Condition took the world by storm in the early 90’s when they made their debut appearance and released their first studio album “Meant to be Mint” on June 11, 1991. The album was released under Perspective Records owned by legendary producers; Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.
During the New Jack Swing era, Mint Condition set apart from other musical artists – ranging from their melodious sounds and high impacted instrumentals which assisted by each member: Stokley Williams (lead vocals and drums) Homer O’Dell (guitar), Larry Waddell (keyboard) Jeff Allen (saxophone and keyboard), Keri Lewis (keyboard) and Ricky Kinchen (bass). Their Soul and Jazz-inspired rhythmics incorporated with the New Jack Swing genre, cultivated the sound of Mint Condition that would implement their distinctive formulations of music.
Their beliefs of recording with a live band raw vocals enticed the emotions from every song recorded.
It wasn’t until 1993 where one of their most notable albums “From the Mint Factory” captured the airwaves. It reached 108 on the Billboard 200 and 18 on the Top R&B Charts upon its release. Their second single, ‘U Send Me Swingin’’ was written by the group’s then keyboardist; Keri Lewis. The record’s success landed the group onto several categories on the Billboard Charts. It reached number 2 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, US Rhythmic (Billboard) at 14, and 33 at the Billboard Top 100.
