Hot 97 annual Summer Jam concert made its return on Sunday (August 22) at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, after a year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, each artist that graced the main stage, over excelled, and exceeded beyond anyone’s expectations. From the tribute to the late DMX and solo performances by Cardi B, DaBaby, Capella Gray, A-Boogie, and more – the event certainly gave the fans a sense of normalcy after being confined and restricted for so long.

The star-studded event began with a choreography induced performances from Saweetie, who represented the West Coast to the fullest.  Dancehall artists such as: Movado, Kranium, Capella Grey, and Shenseea. A$AP Ferg made a surprise guest appearance, performing his recent single, “Plain Jane.”

One of the biggest highlights of the evening came when super producer Swizz Beatz brought on a fleet of legendary acts in lieu of honoring the late DMX. Swizz brought on X’s children onto the stage whilst narrating a synopsis of key memories with the legendary icon. The likes of the Isley Brothers, Lil’ Kim, Remy Ma, M.O.P, The Lox, Busta Rhymes, and Fat Joe all paid their respects with songs they collaborated with DMX before his passing.

Another highlight of SummerJam was DaBaby returning to the stage after his controversial comments during a Rolling Loud performance last month.  Before to performing “RockStar,” the North Carolina emcee played a video, expressing his sincere gratitude to Hot 97 for continuously supporting him, despite the backlash he received for his homophobic comments last month.

“They accepted my sincerity and all my apologies,” DaBaby stated, “Hot 97 was also willing to stick their neck out on the line, willing to go against all off with everything going on out there in the world and still allowed me to come out here on this stage and utilize their platform to help the world move forward.”

Cardi B also graced the state as a guest appearance alongside Migos, sporting her protruding baby bump.

A-Boogie wit da Hoodie made a legendary moment when he was accompanied Audrey Jackson who is the mother of the late Pop-Smoke. Audrey who was ecstatic to be present, shared some fond and sentimental briefing. A-Boogie thanked Pop’s mother for blessing the world with her son and his creative urgence for music. A-Boogie would later perform with Dancehall upcoming artist, Capella Grey to perform the remix to “Gyalis.”
