Rising Knoxville Artist Yung Honcho Continues His Comeback With New Project ‘REEL’

Knoxville, Tennessee’s Yung Honcho continues to build momentum and put on for his city with his unique melodic style on his new project, REEL.

Yung Honcho’s new project, REEL, is the perfect introduction to the rising star out of Knoxville – whose distinct style is defined by a unique melodic tone and disarmingly gentle singing voice. The gritty, street-oriented lyrics juxtaposed with Honcho’s soft, high-pitched vocal are unexpected yet completely captivating. Tracks like “Blind to Death” and “So Much Hate” really highlight Honcho’s vocal chops with simple instrumental production and catchy melodic flows.

With Knoxville often being overlooked for Memphis – home to popular artists like Moneybagg Yo, Big 30, and Pooh Shiesty – Yung Honcho has worked hard to build a name in his home city, but not without his fair share of setbacks. In 2019, Honcho had built a pretty serious buzz in the city and several high profile cosigns based around his relatable persona and unique, gently melodic singing voice – with songs like “Fit In” and “Lean On Me” circulating the city. In the summer of 2019 he dropped his biggest song to date, “Upset” featuring NoCap and fellow Tennessee artist Kevo Muney, which premiered on WorldStarHipHop and has since amassed 1.8M views. “Upset” was a standout track off Black Heart Honcho, his most popular project to date which also introduced his Black Heart movement, a large, tight-knit family that can be seen throughout Yung Honcho’s popular “Black Heart” music video with over 300K views on Youtube.

In 2020, Honcho experienced some pretty significant legal troubles which interrupted his momentum – although he still managed to drop two full projects, Black Hearts and Roses and Destined. In 2021, Yung Honcho has his foot back on the gas, with REEL being his third project of the year – following Street Poet released in January and Black Heart Honcho 2 in April.

After successfully bouncing back, Yung Honcho is a promising emerging act forging a path of his own in a historically overlooked market. As he continues to pump out tracks and further develop his already well-defined signature sound, it will be exciting to watch as the rest of the country begins to take note.
