Post Grammy Recap: Women Dominate As Beyonce Claims Record For Most Awarded Singer

The 63rd Grammy Awards were on Sunday, March 14, and women put themselves on the map right in time for Women’s History Month.

Beyoncé won a Grammy for “Brown Skin Girl” from the Lion King soundtrack. This award gave her the nod for the most Grammy decorated singer of all time, and most awarded female, overtaking singer Alison Krauss, who has 27. We don’t know who she is either.

Beyoncé is now tied with legendary producer Quincy Jones for No. 2 on the all time wins list.

Blue Ivy Carter took her first Grammy Award home at the tender age of 9, becoming the second youngest person to win that award. The first was country artist Leah Peasall, who won the award in 2002 at the age of 8. Let’s keep our comments to ourselves.

This is hardly a new lane for Blue Ivy, who has previously won awards at the BET, NAAACP and Soul Train Awards.

Beyoncé and Blue Ivy weren’t the only female artists to win. Taylor Swift took home the award for ‘Album for the Year’ with Folklore. Swift is now the only artist to win that award three times, which was presented by the Beatles’ own Ringo Starr.

Billie Eilish won ‘Record of the Year’ for “Everything I Wanted” alongside her brother Finneas, which was her seventh award. At the young age of 18, it is safe to say she has many more awards ahead of her. The award for Song of the Year went to H.E.R.’s “I Can’t Breathe.”

Rap was also recognized at the Grammy’s – Megan thee Stallion won the award for ‘Best New Artist,’ becoming the first rapper to win the award since Lauryn Hill in 1999. She also shared a Grammy with the 2nd most decorated Grammy award winner, Beyoncé (see above) for ‘Best Rap Song’ with the “Savage Remix.”

Nas won his first Grammy for ‘Best Rap Album’ with his album Kings Disease. How it is his first Grammy is beyond me, but white guilt is at an all time high in 2021.

Kanye West also won the award for ‘Best Contemporary Gospel Album.’ Do you think a special someone called to congratulate him? (Kanye shrug).
