Drake Gives Us “What’s Next” With ‘Scary Hours 2’

Drake may not be ready to release his upcoming sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy, but he’s offering up a three-piece appetizer in the form of his EP Scary Hours 2.

The latest EP from Drizzy is the sequel to 2018’s Scary Hours, which first included the Billboard Hot 100 number one-debut “God’s Plan” before becoming lead single-status on his Scorpion album released months later. This time around, the 34 year-old gives us three songs while we await the latest album. Mr. Graham gets on his big flex-mode on the lead single “What’s Next,” which he also dropped a visual for filmed in his hometown of Toronto just a few days ago.

Featuring a guest verse from Lil Baby and a slight shout out to friend-turned-foe Kanye West, “Wants and Needs” sounds like a familiar Drake song we’ve heard many of times from the production to the content. However, there’s still something fresh about it that makes it hard not to skip. Speaking of, Mr. Graham gets retrospective and gives us a glimpse into his life as a father on the Rick Ross-assisted “Lemon Pepper Freestyle.”

“Yeah, dropped him off at school, big day for my lil’ man/Recess hits, daddy prolly made another M/School bell rings and I’m out there to get him again” raps Drake on the Boi-1da-produced track (which samples Danish duo Quadron’s 2010 track “Pressure”) about his son Adonis while giving a small mention to his baby mother Sophie Brussaux and having teacher-parent meetings where the other mothers ask him if he knows Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj (of course, he does).

Presently, there’s still no release date for Certified Lover Boy and the lead single “Laugh Now, Cry Later” featuring Lil Durk is up for two GRAMMY Awards, nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at the upcoming 63rd annual award show airing March 14th at 8PM ET on CBS. Could Aubrey be following the same formula for Scary Hours 2 as he did with the first installment where his new album could follow up in the next five months?

The three-pack Scary Hours 2 EP is now available for streaming and at digital music retailers via OVO and Republic.
