Hip Hop to date, is considered to be one of the youngest yet most influential genres to morph into different cultural altitudes throughout the world. Genres such as Gospel and Afro beats have inducted the lyrical sonarce of Hip-Hop – permitting a newfound appreciation from a genre that once birthed predominantly within the five boroughs of New York.

Reflecting the history of Hip-Hop, the Bronx was the founding staple of the genre where DJ Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa were the forefathers of Hip-Hop. However, the likes of Run DMC, Jay Z, Nas, Nicki Minaj, and Notorious B.I.G., and Tupac all cemented the groundwork on how Hip-Hop has been cultivated into a superior realm of revising and implementing sounds.

The south and mid-west has created a new landmark of the genre; asserting a new wave of dynamic. But with dynamic, comes nostalgia or rebirth.

Hip-Hop newcomer, Vic Rivers is a sheer fusion of lyrical undertones from the past, and illusive sounds of the present. Stemming from a multicultural household to a Hispanic father and Indian mother while living in a culturally diversified neighborhood in Queens, it was evident from his first glance of different walks of life that he would narrate his experiences or witnessing through his music.

As a teenager, he would find AOL instant messaging chat rooms where he would battle rap against other kids for hours at a time. This, enhanced his penmanship by creating different scenarios and metaphors in his spare time. Inspired by the likes of Bob Marley, 50 Cent, Lincoln Park, and the late Tupac Shakur – their music cultivated Rivers lyrical ability to become more affluent intellectually and metaphorically, as opposed to his peers.

By the time he was 18, music had fully become his outlet for dealing with frustration and depression. As he started taking music more seriously, Vic formed a team and eventually a record label that would be called ‘D.N.A.’ – an acronym for ‘Diversity Never Abandoned.’ The name serves as an ode to the group’s diversity and their mutual multicultural upbringing – not only ethically but sonically, as each member brought different sounds and even genres to the table.

As a group, they strive to make music that reflects their individual struggles and portrays the environments they grew up in. Another unique aspect of Vic’s music is that he doesn’t use any profanity nor does he use any samples.

You can be sure that anything you hear on Vic River’s traffic are completely original and cuss-free. Currently, Vic has just released his newest single titled, “Buena Vista.” The title means “good view” in Spanish, and the song reflects on past relationships so that listeners might learn something from some of his challenging experiences. With this latest single, Vic Rivers is gaining momentum.

Stay tuned for what’s to come from this distinctive Queens emcee.
