From rappers to executives and everything in between, it’s no secret that black women are flourishing in the once male-dominated music industry. Twenty- three year old Brooklyn-born DJ, Sounds of Reality, is working relentlessly to break through the glass ceiling for herself and other Black female deejays to come.
Reality started her career at Buffalo State College where she became the school’s premiere DJ, spinning for all the major campus events. While there, she got the chance to share the stage with artists such as A-Boogie, Lil Yachty, and Don Q.
Since leaving college, Reality has begun to make a name for herself all across the country, but most notably in her home state. Her talent, skillset, and signature blue tresses have become a staple to the New York city music scene in addition to her collaborations with local acts such as Lola Brooke and Gangtivity. She’s also sprinkled her black girl magic on sets for the likes of Dave East, Da Baby, Joey Badass, and the legendary Funk Flex.
Since breaking into the music scene, Reality hasn’t shied away from the spotlight yet. In fact, she’s even lent her talents to some of the city’s biggest events including New York’s legendary SOBs and Pro Era’s Steez Day, as well as, the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.
Reality’s resume, however, goes far beyond the DJ booth. The young budding entrepreneur is also a producer, creative director, and founder/ curator of the Posh Series; an upscale semi-annual event series designed to empower and elevate young black entrepreneurs, professionals, and creatives.
The Posh Series is a unique, black tie event that attracts young, talented members of the rising generation from all over New York City, bringing them together for a night of networking and celebrating black excellence. Unfortunately, the latest Posh Series events had to be postponed due to the growing Covid-19 Pandemic, but Reality and the Posh Team are already planning ahead for 2021. The next Posh event is schedule for sometime next year; Summer kickoff, the POSH: Summer 2021 Day Party.
