Lana Del Rey proved again that she is indeed a “Karen,” an entitled white woman without any regard for Black lives. While, yes, she did seemingly makes posts in Instagram declaring that Black lives do matter, she did it by revealing the faces of Black protesters in video.
Kehlani via Twitter: “@LanaDelRey by all means protest, but DO NOT endanger people with your very massive platform. oh and turn your f–kin comments on man.”
Tinashe via Twitter: “@LanaDelRey @LanaDelRey why the fuck are you posting people looting stores on your page literally WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM.”
Fellow singer-songwriters Tinashe and Kehlani (of whom she previously complained that mostly Black pop stars like Kehlani got more attention for their type of music over hers on IG) pled with Del Rey on Twitter to remove the media from Instagram, but Lana must have seen nothing wrong with it seeing that she left the video up. For further context, Lana Del Rey is currently dating a police officer, so her “support” of Black Lives Matter comes off as vapid at best and more of a stunt. After hours of leaving the post on IG, she finally deleted the video.
I just urge that everyone, especially non Black people, do not display Black people’s faces when their protesting or uprising because it could put their lives in danger. Lana Del Rey has an album coming sometime in the fall or whatever…an album not many people will buy just like her last flop.
