Say it isn’t so, Nicki Minaj says she’s hanging up her mic. In a weird turn of events, Minaj took to Twitter this Thursday afternoon to share that she’s retiring from music to put all her focus on starting a family with her “Husband” Kenneth “Zoo” Petty.
She stated, “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, [X] in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE,” she wrote. The announcement shocked many of her fans, however you had many people who was celebrating her retirement. The tweet came as a surprise. Just when Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion recently dropped the much-anticipated collaboration with “Hot Girl Summer.” The rapper also dropped another single, “Megatron,” at the beginning of summer.
But it’s her love life that’s taken center stage, as of late. The Queens native has been exuberant in her love for her man, Kenneth Petty, whom she been in a relationship with since December 2018. In July, the news broke that the couple had obtained a marriage license; she also changed her Twitter handle to Mrs. Petty. And as recently as this weekend, Minaj shared love and relationship advice.
However, many have shared their dislike of this relationship. Minaj and Petty’s relationship has invited its fair share of attention good and bad: Kenneth Petty is a registered sex offender, convicted of using a weapon to rape his then girfriend when they were both 16 years old. He also was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter in 2006. Minaj has continually defended her man since the beginning of their relationship, at one point she responded to an Instagram comment from a fan: She stated, “He was 15, she was 16… in a relationship. But go awf Internet. y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo.” Many of Nicki’s shocked fans pleading with the rapper not to retire following the announcement, but the rapper has not clarified her comments since the twitter post.
Is Nicki trolling us? Unclear how true this “Retirement” is. However, we wish her the best of luck…… While hoping this retirement isn’t true.
