B2K was that it boy band from 1998-2004. Formed by record producer Chris Stokes. The group started off with Lil’ Fizz, J-Boog, and Raz-B as members then Omarion later joined. They decided on the name B2K which was short for “Boys of the New Millennium.”
B2K released their single “Uh Huh” in late 2001. The group’s debut album, B2K was released on March 12, 2002. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs albums chart. The album also included hits such as “Why I Love You” and “Gots Ta Be.” Fast Forward after being the opening act for the Scream Tour they 2 years later they joined the Scream Tour 2 with artists such as Bow Wow, TG4, and IMx. B2k then released their fourth single, Bump, Bump, Bump which featured P. Diddy. This was later followed by their second album, Pandemonium! Pandemonium debuted at number ten on the Billboard 200 and at number three on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums. Shortly came the hit movie, You Got Served that starred all the members of B2K and members from IMx. B2K was that it boy band for a huge chunk of us millennials childhood. So it came as a shock around the time the movie was released that the group decided to split.
There was talk around the cause of the split. Apparently, The split occurred because 3 of the members didn’t want to work next to Chris Stokes or Marques Houston who was accused of “sexually molesting” each member of B2K. They also “wanted to be treated fairly.” With all the accusations Omarion chose to stay with Stokes and let him manage his solo career. All the men in the group went on to pursue solo adventures.
Fast Forward to 2019, 15 years later, and every millennial who loved B2K dreams came true when the boys announced their reunion for the Millennium tour. B2K chatted with Vibe about their journey over all these years and what brought them to this point. Boog references B2K’s breakup as, “I attribute (our breakup) to watching (Michael) Jordan retire after his third ring. You’re like, ‘No way, that’s not what I want to see.” It was no surprise to see the boys get back together and I know as a fan it was well overdue.
Throughout the tour, there have been some incidents that took place with member Raz-B which ultimately ended with him taking a break. The group took to their Instagram on May 10th to announce that Raz-B will be taking a break from the tour to cater more to his health and well being. He will not be appearing for the remainder of the Florida dates of the tour. The group is in support of him receiving self-care and will hope to see his return in the future.
According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, the tour grossed $2.2 million, $1.7 million and $1.2 million, respectively, combining for $5 million earned and 56,542 tickets sold. So the questions remain can we expect new music from B2K? As of yet, there are no announcements of a new album from the band, however, in a few interviews, they hinted that anything is possible in the future. So let’s keep our fingers crossed who wouldn’t want another B2K album?
