Well, Rolling Loud came and went. However, it seems like this year, the event just couldn’t catch a break. Lil Wayne says he did not perform as scheduled at the Hip-Hop festival because he was searched by law enforcement officials. The rapper said on social media Saturday that he would not perform at the festival, which took place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami because police “made it mandatory” that he was searched before the show. Lil Wayne was one of the big headliners at the event this year. In his Twitter post, he said he couldn’t go on. “I do not and will not ever settle for being policed to do my job,”
However, he wasn’t the only rapper who face issues this past weekend as well. Sources say rapper Kodak Black was arrested on federal and state weapons charges just before he was set to perform at the festival as well. The U.S. Marshals office says in a press release that Kodak Black was taken into custody Saturday on his way to the event. Authorities say Kodak Black made an appearance in Miami federal court yesterday, where he now faces a possible 10 years in prison. This is one of many charges that the rapper is facing, including last month on drug and weapons charges as he crossed from Canada into the U.S.
While it was one of their best festivals to date, it was overshadowed by many other problems happening around the event. During the three day weekend, it was other shootings and arrests as well. Miami-Dade police were putting crime scene tape around a party bus Friday morning after what Florida Highway Patrol said was a 6:30 a.m. drive-by shooting. One person was hit, FHP said. TMZ.com reported the bus had rapper Young Thug’s entourage and the shots were fired at Young Thug, riding in a car next to the bus. A spokesman for Young Thug told TMZ that Young Thug wasn’t there, but shots were fired at DJ Keyz, there’s no reports of his current condition.
The massive rap festival brought more than 140 Hip-Hop artists over the course of those three days, but was evinced by the number of complications that arose over the weekend, it might have bitten off more than it could chew. However, better luck next year.
