Nicki Minaj recently shared some details about her latest hit song, “Barbie World,” featuring Ice Spice. During the world premiere of the Barbie movie in Los Angeles, Nicki discussed how her collaboration with Ice Spice came about.

According to Nicki, she had several songs to choose from but didn’t love all of them. However, when she heard the sample used in “Barbie World,” she instantly fell in love with it. She specifically mentioned wanting the song to have a great drum beat, and the one they sent her met her expectations. The track was produced by RiotUSA and is based on a sample from Aqua’s popular 1997 song, “Barbie Girl.”

For Nicki Minaj, being a part of the Barbie soundtrack was a significant moment. She described it as a “very full-circle moment” since she has been incorporating the term “Barbie” throughout her career. This collaboration seems to hold personal and symbolic significance for her, tying into her long-standing association with the concept of being a “Barbie” in her music and persona.

Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice joined forces last month for their highly anticipated collaboration featured on the Barbie soundtrack. The track made an impressive debut at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Nicki’s 23rd top 10 hit on the chart and Spice’s fourth.

In the accompanying music video, the duo showcases a vibrant pink aesthetic as they cruise through the city, exchanging verses that emphasize their resemblance to the beloved toy doll. Their visuals embrace a stunning pink palette, while they effortlessly deliver their lyrics, highlighting their shared similarities to the iconic doll.

“And I’m bad like the Barbie/ I’m a doll but I still wanna party/ Pink ‘Vette like I’m ready to bend/ I’m a 10, so I pull in a Ken/ Jazzie, Stacie, Nicki/ All of the Barbies is pretty/ All of the Barbies is bad It girls, and we ain’t playin’ tag,” they rap.

Both New York MCs have embraced their inner pink princess before, as they once collaborated on a remix of Spice’s track “Princess Diana” from her EP, Like..? In the music video for the remix, they adorned themselves in head-to-toe pink attire and shared intimate moments in a bedroom setting.

However, leading up to the release of “Barbie World,” there was some controversy surrounding the track. Compton rapper Jason Martin, formerly known as Problem, accused Nicki Minaj of not giving him proper credit for his writing contributions on the song.
