Atlantic recording artist Cardi B scores her first number-one single this week as her hit “Bodak Yellow” reaches the top of her heatseeking climb an claims the number-one spot on Billboard’s iconic Hot 100 chart.
Dropping Taylor Swift‘s current hit “Look What You Made Me Do” to the number-two spot on the chart. Cardi B’s summer anthem makes history as it graces the top breaking a variety of records. The song originally debuted back in June and within three-months, skyrocketed to the top of the charts, making Cardi B the first female rapper of Spanish-descent to score a number-one single with no features.
The song has received praise from fellow female recording artists like Remy Ma and Nicki Minaj, to iconic singers like Janet Jackson. The hit single has also gained Cardi B an historic nine BET award nominations ranging from Best New Artists to Best Song.
How long Cardi will remain at the top of the charts is uncertain with both Post Malone and fellow new female recording artist Bhad Bhabie a.k.a. Danielle Bregoli quickly climbing the charts with their respective new singles, “Rockstar” and “These Heaux”. Also having to fend off those Cardi dethroned in Luis Fonsi/Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito” and Taylor’s “Look What You Made Me Do”. Can Cardi B continue to break down barriers for the Afro-Latino culture?
The number-one spot couldn’t have come at a better time with Cardi’s debut album scheduled to release next month (October) via Atlantic Records. The debut album is slated to feature guest appearances by Remy Ma, Kodak Black, and Migos.
