Jacob Banks – a rising UK artist by way of Nigeria – is currently in the midst of playing a jam-packed slew of shows at SXSW. Previewing material from his upcoming Interscope debut EP, The Boy Who Cried Freedom, Banks has quickly been making a name for himself as one of the biggest artists to watch of 2017. A music lover first and foremost, Banks got his start at open mic nights and quickly garnered a following for his commanding vocal presence and daringly intimate songwriting. His music features richly textured beats, with its 808s and synth play, African inspired grooves and a soulful disposition that culminates in an unstoppable new sound. Previously, he released a series of independent EPs, became the first indie artist to perform on BBC’s Radio 1 Live Lounge, and toured with the likes of Alicia Keys, Emeli Sande and Sam Smith. His latest single “Unholy War,” which premiered via Interview Magazine reached #1 on Hype Machine charts and follows the viral success of his smash hit“Monster 2.0” (1M streams in its first week).
