Not a dry eye was in the room as Keke Palmer talked to a packed auditorium at City’s College of New York Davis Hall auditorium. Keke spoke about her newly released book “I Don’t Belong To You.” Keke’s passion for helping people just like her is evident- and through her upbeat personality and quirky sense of humor, Keke’s fans were able to get a sense of who she really is, a person like everyone else.
In this intimate conversation, Keke spoke to her fans about the misconceptions of being a celebrity and mentions in her book how she dealt with depression and anxiety due to her demanding Hollywood life.
“People think just because I’m a celebrity I don’t go through the same things that you do,” Keke says. “I feel the same things that you do, I go through the same things, I’m no different.”
Fans lined up to ask questions and the star even serenaded to one fan when finding out she was celebrating a birthday.
One fan asked Keke how to battle with negative thoughts and fears of becoming successful.
“Well, I’ll first admit that something is going on that’s hindering me, because really it’s just a habit,” Keke says.”Your thoughts create habits, we are always blaming the people, the culture, the person, it’s the mind, mental health is real.”
Another fan mentioned she was fearful of achieving her dream of becoming an actress.
“You just gotta look at your past life and see that it prepared you for the moment your in now,” Keke says.”Just trust yourself, I always asked my Dad how would I know things would be good? He said to me look at your past, so just take the leap of faith and trust that it will be alright because it will, there is no way that it can’t.”
After the one on one conversation, Fans were able to meet the star in person and get a signed autograph with the purchase of the book.
