Earlier this week, the Grammy nominations were announced and Hip-Hop fans were able to rejoice. One particular artist from the Bronx had much to celebrate. Fat Joe & Remy Ma were nominated for their hit, “All The Way Up” in two categories: Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. The “Conceited” spitter went up to the Funk Flex show with her husband Papoose to address her excitement via freestyle.
“In two years, no album, no solo single, no tour,” she rhymed alongside husband Papoose. “Three million followers and got two BET Awards / Dropped the album of the summer independent and the shit popped / Legitimized the entire franchise of ‘Love & Hip-Hop.’” And to cap things off, she added: “Two Soul Train Awards, yeah, female rap changin’ / And yesterday, I woke up to two Grammy nominations.”
This comes as Remy’s first Grammy nod in 11 years, she was initially recognized back in 2005 for her contribution to her and Fat Joe’s then hit song, “Lean Back.” The two stars will attend the 59th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony together on Feb. 12.
“It’s just so amazing,” Remy told the Los Angeles Times. “There’s so many artists out there that are working just as hard, or harder, as we are and we are all reaching for that same star. To be put in a category with Drake and Kanye West? It’s very humbling.”
The lyrical emcee also made a few references (as most female rappers do) that may seem directed to one or two potential candidates. And since Ms. Mackie is no stranger talking crazy and punchlines, we can only assume some of her bars maybe aimed at Foxy Brown if you will? Or maybe it’s just rap, who knows.
“When ni**as ask me to spit, they know what I’m ’bout do / When they ask you to spit, they wanna see what that mouth do,” Remy raps. “When I talk greezy, trust, it ain’t about you / I don’t shade, I say names, you don’t want me to shout you.”
Papoose also took to the mic to spit some rhymes of his own during the segment. Watch the “Black Love” couple represent New York below.
