After penning hits for the likes of Chris Brown, Brandy, and Usher, the Compton, Calif. native is ready to embark on a career as an artist himself. Since 2013, he’s managed to release 6 mixtapes and 3 EP’s. We sat down with one of the hardest working man in showbiz after his sold-out show at New York City’s SOB’s to discuss politics, President-elect Donald Trump, his support for Hillary Clinton, his current mixtape, ‘Eric B. for President: Term 1,’ new artist Kehlani, and much more.
Eric pays homage to rap pioneers Eric B. & Rakim on his latest project and admits this is where the idea to name the mixtape that, and of course with the recent election it made sense. He told XXL: “Eric B and Rakim were two of rap music’s most coveted pioneers,” explained Bellinger. “They opened doors for generations of artists to prosper in this industry. This is my way of saying thank you and providing physical proof that they made a difference. Plus with this project being more hip-hop driven and a campaign that could potentially put the first female president in office, it was only right. I felt it was necessary to raise awareness amongst the culture using my voice to support what’s right for the masses.
The Epic Records signee is currently in the studio working on his highly anticipated full-length debut album, which is due next year.
